George B. Beaver, 83

George B. Beaver 83, of Mildred PA passed away on Sunday January 29, 2012 at the Highlands care Center of Laporte PA.

George was born on June 14 1928 in Mildred a son of the late William and Helen Orlowski Beaver.

He was a graduate of Turnpike High School class of 1946. George and several friends enlisted in the Army on October 4, 1946 and spent the next year in Tokyo Japan. He returned by way of Okinawa and the Philippine’s. George was discharged on February 3, 1948 in Fort Lawton in Washington.

After he returned home he began a business hauling coal from the Mildred breaker, and worked construction for many years. George later began working at the Sylvania plant in Towanda until his retirement in 1985. In 1952 George married the late Elizabeth “Betty Shelman”, and raised 4 children, they enjoyed 53 years of marriage until her passing in May of 2006. His memberships include: Trinity Lutheran Church of Mildred, where he served for many years on its Board of Trustees and Joint Council, he was a life member of the McDermott Post # 452 and the New Albany V.F.W. Post, and the White Ash Land Association.

George is survived by 3 children and their spouses: Dawn and Keith Pretti of Laporte: Mark and Monique Beaver of Dushore and Lynn and Harry Newman Jr. of Unityville: 6 Grandchildren: Colton and Peyton: Joshua, Nicholas and Jonelle: Jenson, Jessica and Kevin: 3 sisters: Phyllis Demun, Marion Messersmith and Shirley Ermanovic.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2006: a son William “Billy” in 1984, and a brother Frank Beaver in 1997.

Family and friends are invited to view on Friday February 3 2012 from 2 to 4p.m. and 7 to 9p.m. at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, PA and on Saturday from 12 until 1 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mildred PA.

A funeral Service will be held on Saturday February 4, 2012 in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Mildred at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Kaltenbaugh Officiating.

Interment will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the McDermott Post and the US Army Personnel.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church memorial fund, c/o Shepherd of the Hills Church, P.O. Box 460, Dushore PA in George’s memory.

Marian E. Andrews, 89

January 31st, 2012

Marian E. Andrews 89, of Eagles Mere PA, passed away on Saturday January 21, 2012 at the Highlands Care Center of Laporte PA.

Marian was born on May 21, 1922 in Conshohocken PA, a daughter of the late Horace and Leah Snyder Davis.

In June of 1940 Marian married her late husband Clayton L. Andrews who passed away on October 1, 2001. She and Clayton moved to the Eagles Mere area in 1942 and she worked for many years as a house keeper, and enjoyed making many friends throughout the area.

Marian was a loving wife and mother, she enjoyed playing bingo and painting ceramics.

She is survived by her 4 children and their spouses: Carol and Dennis Jordan of Conshohocken PA: Elaine and John Richlin of Dushore PA: Robert Andrews of Eagles Mere PA and Donald and Linda Andrews of Eagles Mere PA, 5 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held in the Eagles Mere Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Maria Williams, 83

Maria Williams 83, of LeRaysville PA passed away at her home on Monday morning January 16, 2012.

She was born on November 20, 1928 in Geiselhoring Germany, and was raised by the Hans Wagner family.

 

Maria managed a Gasthaus, “Guest House”, in Germany where she met and married John R. Williams Sr., on July 6, 1962 in Grafenwohr Germany, where he was stationed with the US Army until 1964 when they returned to the United States.

 

She was a loving wife and mother of 49 years. She cared for their family as John was deployed throughout the world as his Army career took him away from them for long periods of time.

 

Maria enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing, she loved raising their family and caring for her husband. She enjoyed gardening and being outdoors, and after their retirement, they worked beside each other building their home in LeRaysville area.

 

Maria is survived by her husband John Sr., at home, 3 children and spouses: Marina and Jim Harmon of Lakeworth FL, Nancy Williams of Meshoppen PA, and John R. and Rose Williams Jr., 3 grandchildren: Jason and Carrie Harmon and John R. Williams III: a Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald J. and Cindy Williams and niece Michelle.

 

She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: George and Hans Wagner, and a sister Gundl Neumeir.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McHenry Funeral Home.

 

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Jason Thomas Oliver, 40

December 15th, 2011

Jason Thomas Oliver 40, of Towanda PA, passed away following an auto
accident in Wysox PA.
Jason was born in Tunkhannock on November 5, 1971 a son of Robert F. and
Irene Knolles Oliver of Wyalusing PA. He recently returned to Bradford Co.
after living and working in the Elizabethtown area for the last 10 years.
He was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School class of 1990, a 3 year
varsity letterman in wrestling. He received a certificate in HVAC from
Bradford Co VoTec.
Jason was a veteran of the US Army, after graduation he enlisted in the
Army Reserves and served with the 1ST Battalion 314TH Infantry from
Williamsport PA until his release in 1998.
He worked for Jerry Frank Construction and Milnes Construction after which
he became a Union Carpenter and gave him the opportunity work for Griner
Industries as a welder. He later began his own Construction Company, and
began building large homes in the Harrisburg area.
He and his wife Audrey were married on February 15, 2002.
Jason was an avid golfer; he loved softball, hunting, and a diehard
Pittsburg Steeler fan and NASCAR Dale Earnhart fan. He was a member of the
Towanda V.F.W. and American Legion Post 534, Wyalusing, and the
Elizabethtown American Legion and a member of The Wyalusing Methodist
Church.  Jason had a love for life and made many smile. He was a wonderful husband

and friend to many.

He is survived by his wife Audrey L. Raupers Oliver of Towanda, 2
daughters: Fontana Oliver of Horseheads NY, and Christina and Jonathan
Beachy of Manheim PA, 3 Grandchildren: David, Allyla and Jonathan Jason
Beachy. His parents: Robert F. and Irene Oliver Sr. of Wyalusing, Brothers
Robert F. Oliver Jr. (Melinda Miller) Colley PA and Adam and Angie
Oliver Hollenback PA. Grandparents: Ida Belle Knolles of Cordele GA, and
Alice Youkoski of Towanda, father and mother-in-law: Charles and Ann
Raupers, nieces, Lydia Mills, Janie Oliver and a nephew, Thomas Oliver,
special Cousins: Bert and Chris Vaskas and Kelsey and Cole Walker, numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins
and friends.
Jason was preceded in death by Great-Grandmother Gertrude Kunkle,
Grand-parents Gerald Knolles and Hutt and Reta Oliver, an Aunt Dawn
Knolles and a cousin Felicia Reese.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 in the
McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing PA at 12:00 noon with
Pastor Beverly Murphy officiating.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 10:00 until the
time of the service.
Interment and Military Honors will be held in the Colley Cemetery at a
later time.

David J Gephart, 82

December 15th, 2011

 

David J Gephart, 82, of Colley, PA, died Dec. 11, 2011 at home in Colley, PA, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Colley, Sullivan County, on December 17, 1928, son of David and Twila Gephart.

 

He attended the Colley rural one-room schoolhouse up to the seventh grade in 1939, when it closed. He completed his high school education at Dushore High School, graduating in May 1946. He continued his education at Lycoming College, Williamsport, PA, and from 1946 to 1950 held various jobs: as a miner helper in the Pittston anthracite mines, as an able body seaman on the Great Lakes and as a chainman on a route survey team for the layout of the New Jersey Turnpike. With the start of the Korean War on June 25, 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was selected to attend Officers’Candidate School, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant Artillery and serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in Japan and Korea. He was discharged from active duty in 1953 and continued his education at Pennsylvania State University, graduating as a Civil Engineer in 1956. He was then placed on military reserve status as a 1st Lieutenant, Corps of Engineers. Following graduation from Penn State, he was selected by the Federal Highway Administration, Washington, D.C., as a candidate in a three-year training program leading to placement in the administrative operation at the state highway level. This program was in conjunction with the start of the development and construction of the Eisenhower Interstate Highway Program, for which he monitored the construction of sections of Interstate 80 in the Bloomsburg, PA, area. Following graduation from this training program, he was assigned overseas to the countries of Sudan in Africa and Iran in the Middle East for some five years, during which time he provided technical assistance on construction programs working with host government engineers under an U.S. Technical Assistance Agreement between the U.S. and the host government. In 1969 he transferred to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) under the U.S. Department of State. With USAID, he was assigned to various host countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He was promoted in 1974 to Regional Chief Engineer for the USAID East African operations. He and his assigned staff monitored activities related to U.S. interests in 12 African countries. He retired from USAID in 1981 at Kathmandu, Nepal. He then worked as a consultant for USAID until 1996, taking assignments in some 10 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Following retirement he and his wife, Carolee, traveled extensively in the U.S. and Canada, spending the winter season in Florida and the balance of the year in Colley, in sight of the home where he was born.

 

Dave is survived by his wife, Carolee Collins of Tuscaloosa, AL, to whom he was married in 1954, and his children: Glenda (William) Phoenix of Watkins Glen, NY, and two grandsons, Travis and Nicholas; David Gephart III of Colley, PA; Laura (Peter Chilson) Gephart of Portland, OR; and Barbara (Michael) McGarvey of Warrington, PA, and one granddaughter, Devon. He also is survived by his sister, Mary Lou (Henry) Minnier of Colley, PA.

 

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wilmot, and American Legion Post 996 of Dushore. He was a past member of the F&AM Lodge 618 of Wyalusing.

 

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing. A memorial gravesite service – including an honor guard ceremony by the American Legion Post 996, will be held at a later date. Arrangements will be by the McHenry Funeral Home.

 

Marjorie J. McGroarty, 76

November 6th, 2011

Marjorie J. McGroarty 76, New Albany PA passed away on November 5, 2011 at the Skilled Nursing Unit Memorial Hospital of Towanda PA.

She was born on January 27, 1935 the only child of late Lester and Myrtle Kobbe Keeney in New Albany PA. She was the wife of the late Charles M. McGroarty who preceded her in death on February 20, 2003.

Marjorie worked many years at the Endicott Johnson Shoe factory, and also for Rynvelds and Kauffman Boot Company.

She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish of Dushore.

Marjorie is survived by her 4 children and their spouses: Michael and Margaret McGroarty, Maureen and Roger Hoyt, Matthew and Glenda McGroarty and Edward and Michele McGroarty all of New Albany PA, 9 Grandchildren: Josh and (Karen), Beau and (Alicia), Dalton and Dylan, Kylie and Shawn, and Lacey, Kira, and Hannah and 8 Great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning November 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Basil’s Church, 101 Churchill St., Dushore PA with Rev. Joseph R. Hornick officiating.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, PA 18614.

Frederick Charles Haag 41

Frederick Charles Haag Jr. 41, of Johnson City, NY passed away on Monday morning October 24, 2011 at the Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton NY.

He was born on July 7, 1970 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn NY a son of Fredrick C. Haag and Joann M. Moore Haag-Taylor.

Frederick was the Owner and Operator of Haag-Hauling, a long haul company from Johnson City. He enjoyed the outdoors, Hunting, Fishing and loved Camping and Sailing.

Frederick is survived by his mother Joann M. Haag Taylor of Johnson City NY, a son Stefan Haag and a daughter Katie Mae Haag, sisters: Bernadine Morris and Christine Weaver of Dushore, PA, four nieces: Kristina and Theresa Askew and Kathryn and Sarah Weaver.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, PA 18614 with Rev. Joseph Hornick of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing at the funeral home from 1:00 until the time of the service on Friday.

Interment will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Mark Allen Sandor

Mark Allen Sandor 50, of Stevens Twp., Wyalusing PA passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Robert Packer Hospital of Sayre PA.

Mark was born on August 4, 1961 a son of Phillip D. and Charlotte Merrill Sandor in Towanda PA.

He loved being outdoors, Hunting, Fishing and Hiking. He worked in the Wyalusing area as a quarryman until his declining health would not allow him to continue.

He is survived by his mother Charlotte at home, a daughter Vanessa Olsen and her mother Virginia of FL, a brother Patrick Sandor and a special Aunt Sonya Bligh.

A funeral Service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing, PA 18853 with rev. Michael Bahr officiating.

A viewing will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Cali Lee Carr, infant daughter of Milo Frank and Tanya Marie Hercenberg Carr of Laceyville PA, passed away at the Memorial Hospital of Towanda PA on October 3, 2011.

Cali is survived by parents, Milo and Tanya, a sister Kira and a brother Aaron Carr of Laceyville Pa, her maternal grandparents Scott & Theresa Hercenberg of Sugar Run PA, paternal grandparents, Bill & Carol Carr of Wilmot PA, maternal great-grandparents, Richard & Patricia Eberlin of Black Walnut Pa, and Charlotte Hercenberg Ericson of Tioga Pa, paternal great-grandparents, Frank & Marilyn Carr of Wilmot Pa. Aunts and Uncles: Frank & Stacy Thompson of Camptown Pa, Snapper & Daralyn Carr of Black Walnut Pa, Kim Higley of Wyalusing, Pa and Michael Hercenberg of Norwood MA, and many cousins.

Rebecca Lynn Weston 62

October 7th, 2011

Rebecca Lynn Weston 62, of Dushore Pa, passed away on Tuesday October 4, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital in Towanda after a long protracted illness.

She was born on August 22, 1949 in Warren PA a daughter of the late E. Wayne and Betty Jo Zeliff Chitester.

She was the beloved wife of Richard A. Weston, they were married on December 28, 1973 in Cochranton PA. She and Richard moved to Dushore in 2004 where Becky found the community and its people to be wonderfully giving and friendly. She made many lasting friendships and will be missed by many.

Becky was a graduate of the University of Maryland and was the first student in its history to be awarded a bacholareit degree in Sociology based on her experience and her thesis.

She was employed for many years by the Union County Welfare Department as a Criminal fraud investigator and later elevated to the head of forensic for 15 years in the Union County Prosecutors office.

Rebecca also taught  courses for the Warren County Community College for several years.

She was a published genealogist in the NJ American Geneology magazine and was listed in the Who’s Who among American Women, and a member of the Daughter of the American Colonist’s.

Becky is survived by her husband Richard, a son Richard A.C. Weston of Dushore, a grand-daughter Hailey Weston of Whitehall Pa, a brother, Elza Wayne Chitester II and a nephew, E. Wayne Chitester III, and niece Elizabeth Ann Chitester of Linesville Pa, and  a niece Betty Jo Chitester of Erie Pa.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 8, 2011 at 10:00 am in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Headley Ave., Dushore PA, with the Rev. Robert W. Brown officiating.

Interment will be held later in the Neilltown Cemetery, Neilltown Pa.
