Morris A. Kinsley, Jr. 58

Morris Arthur Kinsley, Jr., age 58, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

He was born on October 27, 1951, in Mildred, PA, a son of the late Morris A. Kinsley, Sr. and Elizabeth Chilson Kinsley.

He had been employed as a laborer in the coal mining industry.

On October 21, 2000, he married Jean A. Warfel.

Morris liked hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors, and he especially enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren.

He leaves surviving his wife: Jean Kinsley, at home; his children: Morris (Rebecca) Kinsley III, of Sayre, Janae Lynn (Scott) Jennings, of Sayre, PA; three sisters: Mary, Katherine, and Helen, and by a brother: Arthur; and by his grandchildren: Austin Hopson, Devin Hubert, Lucas Adams and Sabrina Foster.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Christopher Kinsley, and by a grandson Dustin Jennings.

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, July 9, 2010, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, PA.

A memorial service will be held on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Blackall, officiating.

Alva C. “Bucky” Wood, 67

July 1st, 2010

Alva C. “Bucky” Wood, 67, of Sugar Run, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010, at the Bradford County Manor.

 

He was born on December 20, 1942, in Honesdale, PA, a son of the late Alva G. and Alice Stegner Wood.

 

Prior to his retirement he had been employed by Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory, in Mildred, giving 26 years of service.

 

Bucky enjoyed his time spent bowling, playing horseshoes, and visiting with his many friends.

 

He leaves surviving his brothers and sister-in-laws: Roger and Mary Wood, of Sugar Run, PA; David and Connie Wood, of Laceyville, PA; an uncle and aunt: Clyde and Augusta Stegner, of Honesdale, PA; by two nieces and three nephews: Lisa Sands, Kelly Jo Penney, Roger Wood, Jr., David Sands and Joshua Wood.

 

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, July 1, 2010,  from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA.

Dorothy P. Brusamonti, 69

June 23rd, 2010

Dorothy Pearl Brusamonti, age 69, of Colley Township, Dushore, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010, as result of an accident in York, PA.

 

She was born on July 5, 1940, in Pinewall, New Jersey, a daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Hewish) Reutter.

 

On November 28, 1959, Dorothy married her husband Peter Brusamonti. The Brusamonti’s had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and have shared loving and devoted marriage.

 

Dot was presently employed at Hurley’s Market in Dushore.

 

She has been a resident of Sullivan County for 29 years, having moved from Thomas River, NJ in 1981.

 

She was a member of Redeemer Church in Dushore.

 

Other memberships: Towanda Chapter No. 76, Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Past Matron; Dawn Chapter OES, of Denver, CO; member of the Mildred American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; and the Pleasant Plains Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and was a Past President.

 

She was a Mother Advisor to Endless Mountains Assembly No. 156, of Towanda, PA, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG); and Holly Assembly No. 56, IORG, of Thomas River, NJ.

 

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking, crafting and traveling.

 

She leaves surviving her husband: Peter Brusamonti, at home; her father: Thomas Reutter (95), of Seaside Heights, NJ; children: Danielle (Richard) Batesko, of Whiting, NJ, Debora (Eric) Rolaf, of Woodbridge, VA, Deneen (Kenneth) Brusamonti-Bosch, of West Chester, PA, Peter (Lisa) Brusamonti, Jr., of Fenelton, PA; sisters and brothers: Gail Henry, Robert Reutter, Richard Reutter, Mary Margaret Jones; and by her 8 grandchildren.

 

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her brother: Thomas Reutter.

 

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, June 25, 2010, at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, PA, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Paul’s Church in Overton, PA, from 10:30 – 11:30.

 

OES funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Paul’s Church, at 11:45 a.m., by members of Towanda Chapter No. 76.

 

Funeral services will be held in the church at 12:00 noon, with the Rev. Robert W. Martin, her former pastor officiating.

 

Interment will be in Colley Cemetery, Colley, PA.

Genevieve Knolles Steele, 101

June 14th, 2010

Genevieve K. Steele, 101, of Mehoopany, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda, PA.


She was born on February 15, 1909, in Wilmot Township, a daughter of the late Thomas and Jane (Lemons) Knolles.

On May 2, 1928, she married Cecil Steele at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wilmot PA. Her husband of 62 years passed away in November 1990.

She had opened a lunch room in the 1940’s on Route 6, along with her husband’s garage and gas station.

Later she worked as a waitress at the Towanda Motel. In 1957, she started to work for the American Meter Company in Wyalusing, and worked for years until they closed. She worked a short time at Arrow United.

They sold in Wyalusing, and moved to Lovelton in 1970. She retired in 1971. That same year she worked as a bar maid for Joe Byrns at the Lovelton Hotel. From 1972 - 1976, she worked for Joyce and Joni at Steele’s Tavern.

She loved making quilts and was an avid cross puzzler.

 

Genevieve has been a resident of Skilled Nursing Unit for two years, and her family appreciates the wonderful care she has received.

She is survived by a daughter: Marcia and her husband Ed Rathbun, of GA; a daughter: Joyce Steele, of Lovelton; a son Thomas Knolles, and wife Connie of N.C.; and an honorary daughter: Joni Sweeney and her husband Dan of Lovelton; five grandchildren: Julie Rathbun Vilar, Jan Rathbun Clement, Susan Rathbun Kern, Jay Rathbun, and Abby Knolles Walker; 14 great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.

Four brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held in Wyalusing Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Wyalusing Valley Fire Company, in memory of Genevieve Steele.

Arrangements were entrusted to the McHenry Funeral Home.


 

 

 

Merton George Walter, Sr. 76

Merton George Walter, Sr., age 76, of (Silvara) Laceyville, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his home.


He was born on May 31, 1934, in Sayre, PA, a son of Peter Walter, Sr. and Nellie (Armitage) Walter.

George had worked on local farms, and had been employed at the charcoal plant in Laceyville, but was a logger most of his life.

He leaves surviving his children: Betty Walter, of Dushore, PA, Merton G. Walter, Jr., (Nellie Rose), of Stevensville, PA, Kenneth R. (Tina) Walter, of Towanda, PA, Eugene L. (Penny) Walter, of Wyalusing, PA, Michael (Penny Warfle) Walter, of Wyalusing, PA; his former wife: Anne Capwell Walter Cory; special friends: Dale Wheaton, Sonny Heeman, Anthony Barna and Joseph Barna; brothers and sisters: Peter Walter, Jr. (Jeannette); William Walter Sr. (Mary), James Walter, Sr., Howard Walter Sr., Frank Walter (Geraldine), Mary (Bill) Fassett, Elsie (Pearle) Fassett; former mother-in-law: Olive Holcomb; 11 grandchildren: 30 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two half sisters: Pauline and Nellie; by a step father: Joseph Russick; and nephew: Duane Walter Sr.

DeWayne E. Vinson, 75

DeWayne E. Vinson, 75, of Sylvania, PA, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his home.


He was born on December 6, 1934, in Springfield Township, a son of the late Elmer and Rena (Joralemon) Vinson, and has been a lifetime resident of the Troy area.

On December 30, 1955, DeWayne married the former Marilyn Wandell in Wellsburg, NY. They had celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

In DeWayne’s early years, he did farm work for Laverne Greenough. He was a self-employed dairy farmer from 1963 until his retirement in 1995.

 

While engaged in farming he also worked and traveled for Don Rockwell running cattle auctions. He also owned and operated his own cattle trucking business.

He found great pleasure in his time spent in the outdoors.

He leaves surviving his loving and devoted wife: Marilyn Vinson, at home; daughter: Vickie (Tom) Taylor, of New Columbia, PA; son: Lee (Barb) Vinson, of Troy, PA; foster sons: Theron and George Beck, Jr.; sisters and brothers: Dolores (Jim) Henry, of Milan, MI, Bonnie (Merle) Merritt, of Mikado, MI, Audrey Puglisi, of Sevierville, TN, Ethel (Bob) Anderson, of Belleville, MI, Linda (Kevin) Polovick, of Ridgebury, PA; Ned Vinson, of Athens, PA, Garth (Carol) Vinson, of Frankfort, KY; sister-in-law: Wanda Vinson Alexander, of Milan, PA; six grandchildren: Matt (Doniessa) Vinson, Emily Vinson, Nicholas Vinson; Jennie Blaker, Bobby Taylor, Nichole Taylor; by his special great grandson: Holden Vinson; great grandsons: Ryan and Logan Taylor; by aunts, uncles, and many nieces and nephews.

Ronald “Fuzzy” Neal Fries, 61

June 7th, 2010

Ronald “Fuzzy” Neal Fries, age 61, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his home.

 

He was born on October 14, 1948, in Towanda, PA, a son of the late Harry W. Fries Sr. and Frances Barratt Fries.

 

He was a graduate of St. Basil’s High School, of Dushore, Class of 1966.

 

He retired from Proctor and Gamble in Mehoopany, PA.  He was employed by Fitzpatrick and Lambert in Dushore, until the time of his death.

 

Fuzzy has been a lifetime resident of this area.

 

He was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church; a member of White Ash Land Association; Dushore American Legion; and the Dushore Fire Company.

 

He enjoyed NASCAR, and was an avid Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed working on his vehicles.

 

One of his greatest pleasures was his time spent on Sundays with his grandchildren.

 

He leaves surviving his children: Neal (Kami) Fries, of Wysox, PA; grandchildren: Kara, Brandon, and Nicholas Fries; by brothers and sisters: Douglas (Patsy) Fries, of Pineville, LA, Sally Murray (Jim), of Mildred, PA, Patricia (Timothy) Griffin, of Tunkhannock, PA; sister-in-law: Helen Fries, of Wysox, PA; and by five nephews and ten nieces.

 

He was preceded in death by his father Harry, Sr., 9/1/78, by his mother Frances, 11/24/91; by his brothers and sisters: Harry W. Fries, Jr., of Wysox, PA, 5/26/2009; Sue Ruda, Dacula, GA, 12/1/07; Joseph Fries, of Dushore, PA, 4/26/02; and Mary Lou Fries, of Dushore, 6/26/1944.

 

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, June 9, 2010,  from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, PA.

 

A Transferal Service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Basil’s Catholic Church, of Dushore, with Rev. Joseph Hornick, as celebrant.

 

Interment will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery.

 

Pallbearers are: James Murray, Scot Murray, Timothy Griffin, Darrin Griffin, Kris Pries, and Jerry Murray.

Norman William Panella, Sr.

June 5th, 2010

 

It is with great sadness that Norman William Pennella Sr. has gone to be with his Maker on June 4, 2010 at his home in Hillsgrove. Norman was born June 15, 1948 in Miami Fl to James and Sarah Phillips Pennella and grew up in Williamsport, Pa. He graduated from Loyalsock High School in 1966.  He married Nellie Anastasia McCarty of Hillsgrove, PA in 1968.  Norm’s love of higher eduation started when he graduated Williamsport Area Community College with an Associates Degree in Electronics in 1970. He then worked for Corning Glassworks as an engineer in Corning, NY. After this he moved to Sullivan County and finished his career working for Montour Oil in Motoursville, PA. During this time he attended Penn State University where he received a Bachelors of Social Science degree in Social Science with honors. Throughout his life he volunteered throughout the community and was involved with county politics. He sired one daughter and seven sons. Surviving is his wife Nellie, daughter Brenda, Sons: Norm Jr., Brian, Brad, Mark, Mike and Jeff and 11 grandchildren. Son John passed at age 19. Also surviving is his brother James and he was preceded in death by sisters Sarah Jane and Cheryl. He loved driving around the country, photography, hunting, and helping anyone in need.  Norm was a life long die-hard Penn State Football fan.  Norman will be forever missed and his children will never forget the lessons in life he had bestowed on them. Son John will meet him in peace. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday June 11, 2001 at 2:00 PM in St Basil’s The Great Church of Dushore, with Rev. Joseph Hornick as celebrant,  internment will immediately follow in St Francis Cemetery in Overton, Pa.

Reese G. Conner, 88

May 13th, 2010

Reese G. Conner, age 88, of Cherry Township, Dushore, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Dar-Way Elder Care in Forksville, PA.

 

He was born on December 20, 1921, a son of the late Kemerly and Edna (Kingsley) Conner.

 

A native of Sullivan County, Reese was born in Cherry Township, on the family dairy farm, where he worked until 1965. He worked several years for Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory, in Mildred.  Prior to his retirement in 1985, Reese worked for the Masonite Corporation in Towanda for 17 years, after his retirement Reese worked part time for Saxe’s Farms.

 

Reese married the former Ruth Jackson of Wyalusing in March of 1955, and they celebrated 36 years of marriage until her passing in 1991.

 

He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Zion Chapel of Dushore.  He was also a member of Evergreen Lodge No. 163 F.&.A.M, of Monroeton, Scottish Rite, of Williamsport, and Irem Temple, of Dallas.

 

Reese enjoyed traveling, especially the cruises with the Lutheran church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching sports particularly Penn State football.

 

He leaves surviving two sons: Harold R. (Serinda R.) Conner, of Milton, DE, and Alan J. Conner, of Wilmington, DE; by brother: Leland Conner, of CA; two sisters: Iona Petrelli Cummack, of NY, Alice Meggiblaro, of Clifton, NJ; by a sister-in-law: Lois Conner, of Tampa, FL; and by three grandchildren: Lydia R., Cyrus M., and Ethan L. Conner, of Milton, DE.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Earl Conner and Kemerly Conner.

 

Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, May 15, 2010, from 11:00 – 12:00 noon, at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, PA.

Peter M. Kilgus, Jr., 51

Peter M. Kilgus, Jr., age 51, of Dutch Mountain, Colley Township, Dushore, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 23, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, PA.

 

He was born on February 11, 1959, in Schenectady, NY, a son of the late Peter M. Kilgus, Sr. and Carol (Barber) Kilgus.

 

He is a 1977 graduate of Sullivan County High School.

 

He is a veteran of the United States Navy, and served as a Fireman.

 

On May 16, 1981, he married the former Dawn Hottenstein in St. Paul’s Church in Overton. Pete and Dawn have celebrated 28 years of marriage.

 

He was a welder for Iron Workers from 1980 until 1991.

 

In 1991 until his passing, he was employed as a welder by Proctor & Gamble in Mehoopany, PA.

 

He was an avid hunter, NASCAR fan, Ultimate Fighting Championship fan, and enjoyed farming and raising beef cattle.

 

Surviving is his wife: Dawn Kilgus, at home; two children: Chad Kilgus, at home, Tara Kilgus, at home:  his mother: Carol Kilgus, of Dushore; a sister: Terry (Kevin) Bullis, of Dutch Mountain; a brother: John (Kim) Kilgus, of Mertztown, PA; and by many nieces and nephews.

 

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, PA, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., and on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at St. Paul’s Church, in Overton from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service.

 

Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at St. Paul’s Church, in Overton, with the Rev. Darcy Miller, pastor officiating.
